"It may look a little different this year, but we're still bringing the music, food and fun to Irwin!"
That's how the Gig on Main make-up date was announced in the event's listing on AllEvents. It's an understatement. For years, the Irwin Business & Professional Association's free concert has been a Saturday night in two blocks of Main Street. This year it's a Tuesday night at Irwin Park. Another downtown event is moving off Main Street too. In mid-November, the IBPA plans a brand-new holiday market in Depot Alley, the service alley behind the Main Street storefronts.
So two of this fall's downtown events are happening somewhere other than Main Street. The Main Street events, meanwhile, are keeping their usual dates. Here's how the season fits together.
A Saturday Street Party Becomes a Tuesday at the Park
The original plan was Saturday, September 12, from 5 to 11 p.m., on Main Street. The IBPA's own event page still shows that original description right under the new date, which is Tuesday, October 13, from 5 to 10 p.m. at Irwin Park. The rain date is October 14, a Wednesday.
No organizer has said publicly why the date changed. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that thunderstorms moved through the region on September 12, with heavy rain, lightning delays, and another line of storms expected around 5 p.m. That's when the concert was supposed to start. Weather is a likely reason, but nobody has confirmed it.
Lightning has already interrupted this event once. According to Kenny Ross, the event's presenting sponsor, Twisted Fate stopped playing during a lightning delay at the 2025 show, came back once the weather cleared, and The Clarks closed the night.
The event goes back further than most people remember. TribLive has a photo from Gig on Main in 2019, and by 2023 it was calling the concert an annual event. That year's show took over two blocks of Main Street with three bands. In 2024, TribLive listed Justin Sellers, The Mazeroskis, and headliner The Clarks, along with 15 food trucks and shuttle buses from Calvary Church. The IBPA brought The Clarks back for the September 20, 2025 show. In 2026, the headliner is the same but the setting is very different.
How the Evening at the Park Is Set Up
Here's the schedule from the organizer's make-up date announcement:
- 5 p.m. The event starts at Irwin Park, Chestnut and 10th Street. Admission is free.
- 6 p.m. Parry Adams
- 7 p.m. Rose & Ruin
- 8 p.m. The Clarks
The announcement also lists food trucks, a "Painters Pints" beer garden from Painter Property Development, and a free shuttle from Calvary Church to the park. Bandsintown also lists The Clarks at Irwin Park at 8 p.m. that Tuesday, with free admission.
One thing to know before you rely on the IBPA site: its own event page still says organizers are "working hard to book The Clarks." That's leftover text from the original listing. The newer announcements name The Clarks for the 8 p.m. slot, but check the IBPA's latest post before you head out, especially if the forecast looks iffy and the rain date might be needed.
The park works differently from Main Street. Irwin Borough lists an amphitheater, a walking track, courts, baseball fields, playgrounds, and picnic areas across its park system. So the bands get a real stage instead of one set up in the street. The borough's pavilion rental application also says that parking may be limited during special events and that cars can't park or drive on the grass. Parking was tight on Main Street, and it'll be tight at the park too. That makes the shuttle the easier way in.
The shuttle leaves from the same place as before. Calvary Church is at 8653 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin, PA 15642. It was the shuttle stop in 2024 when the concert was still on Main Street, so if you've ridden it before, you know where to park.
Main Street Events Three Days Before the Concert and Eleven Days After
The concert's new date puts it right between two Main Street events that never moved.
Saturday, October 10. LICK or TREAT, the IBPA's pet trick-or-treat, is on Main Street. Expect pets in costumes, treats, and costume prizes. The IBPA lists it from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The borough's calendar lists 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you show up around 11:30, you'll be there during both.
Tuesday, October 13. Gig on Main is at Irwin Park.
Saturday, October 24. Downtown Irwin's Store to Store Trick or Treat & Parade runs from 1 to 3 p.m. on Main Street. Kids trick-or-treat from shop to shop, and everyone joins the parade down Main Street at 3 p.m.
That's three IBPA events in fifteen days at two different locations, put on by the same association whose concert usually closes out September. If you come for one, it's easy to plan around the others.
The New Market Is Behind the Storefronts
The most interesting change for November is happening one block back from Main Street. The IBPA lists a "Depot Alley Holiday Street Market," marked "NEW This Year," for Saturday, November 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It runs along Depot Alley from 6th Street to 4th Street, with local vendors and crafts, holiday food and drinks, and holiday music. The IBPA describes it as turning "our back alley into a Christmas Village."
Most people know Depot Alley as the back side of downtown. TribLive places it between Main and Oak streets, and its 2023 report on Club Pure Imagination noted that the club's garage doors open onto the alley. The club is at 419 Main Street, above Gift Basket World & Sarris Candy. Irwin's parking code bans parking on both sides of Depot Alley from Pennsylvania Avenue to Second Street, so the alley usually stays clear. That's part of why it can work as a market space.
The name fits the town's history, though no source we found says outright that the alley was named for the depot. The Norwin Historical Society says the first train reached Irwin Station on July 4, 1852. After the 1903 flood, the station and tracks were raised to cut down on flood damage and get rid of rail crossings. The town grew up around that station before it was renamed for John Irwin when it incorporated in 1864.
Because this is the market's first year, there's no track record yet. The Downtown Irwin Market vendors who set up in August 2025 were on both sides of Main Street, not in the alley. November 14 is the first test of whether the alley works as an event space.
Back on Main Street Through December
The rest of the season is on Main Street again.
- Ladies Night Downtown Irwin, Thursday, November 5, 4 to 9 p.m.: shopping, food, drinks, prizes, and entertainment. The IBPA says this year's theme will be announced later.
- Light Up Norwin, Thursday, November 19: a parade, tree lighting, entertainment, and food. The IBPA lists the start time as 5 p.m., and the borough's calendar for the Norwin Rotary event lists 4 to 9 p.m. If you want a good spot for the parade, plan for the earlier time.
- Annual Downtown Irwin Holiday Cookie Tour, Friday, December 4, 5 to 8 p.m.: free cookies at downtown businesses and a horse-drawn carriage ride.
From October 10 to December 4, the IBPA calendar has something downtown almost every week. Most of it happens on the same few blocks of Main Street. The Tuesday concert at the park and the Saturday market in the alley are the two exceptions, and both are worth putting on the calendar now: The Clarks at 8 p.m. on October 13, and Depot Alley from 9 to 3 on November 14.
If you're heading to the park on the 13th or walking Depot Alley in November, and you want to know more about the blocks around it, from how those older Main Street buildings are put together to what's happening along Pennsylvania Avenue, Katrina Sells Pittsburgh is happy to talk Irwin with you anytime.
